As the leading manufacturer and supplier of trenchless pipeline rehabilitation equipment, it’s always great to see municipalities using trenchless technology to reinforce their aging pipe systems. This is exactly what the city of Durango, Colorado is doing.
The city expects to spend approximately $280,000 upgrading its stormwater pipes at all intersections along Main Ave. from 12th Street to College Ave. The contractor hired to repair the pipes will line them with a resin used to structurally reinforce the system to prevent deterioration, which can lead to sinkholes.
With this type of lining, there are several perks to performing this process. The new lining should extend the life of the 12- and 18-inch pipes for more than 50 years. It is also cost-effective coming in at about half the cost of digging up the street to replace the pipes. Finally, it is time-effective where the repair only takes a few hours each day.
The stormwater pipe project is similar to a sewer pipe replacement the city of Durango completed last year.
