The City of Colorado Springs did their best to divert an overflow in Pueblo County due to heavy rains. Our residents know what to look for when the rain comes. However, we never want to see raw sewage near our homes. Unfortunately, residents near 31st street recently experienced just that due to a wastewater overflow in two manholes that spilled over into Fountain Creek. Homeowners also experienced flooding in their basements. The situation was monitored around the clock for several days while workers stayed vigilant to subdue and contain this overflow. The City reported several hundred thousand gallons of storm water, with approximately one third of that being sewage, before the situation was brought under control. This has the Colorado Dept. of Health and Environment asking some probing questions as to how this can be avoided.
